Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our tests, results, and process.
Where is my test kit?
Unless you clicked the "buy a Sample kit" you will just take the digital journey which means you can get your sample sent off quicker to our lab and receive your results quicker. No physical kit will be sent, reducing the carbon footprint by avoiding unnecessary packaging that would require recycling. After completing your order, follow the on-screen or emailed instructions to send your hair sample to the provided address. There's no need for special packaging—just place your hair in a small, sealable bag, clearly labelled with your name and redemption code, and mail it in a secure envelope.
Address is:

How should I take a hair sample?
It's best to ask someone to assist you in collecting your hair sample. Have them gather 7 or 8 strands using their thumb and forefinger, then twist the strands gently to hold them together. If possible try and pluck the hair and base follicle but if this is too difficult then we can also use cut hair. Cut the hair close to the scalp in one cut to keep the strands aligned. If you're alone, using a mirror may help ensure you cut the hair safely.
Will dyed, permed, or treated hair affect the results?
No, the test analyzes the natural composition of your hair, so chemical treatments won't impact the results. If you prefer, you can also provide hair from another part of your body.
Can I still take the test if my hair is short or if I'm bald?
Yes, we can accept hair from any part of your body, such as your legs, arms, or chest, to perform the test.
How will I know if you've received my sample?
Once your sample arrives at our lab, we will send you a confirmation email. We aim to deliver your results within 48-72hrs once received at US lab. If you haven't heard from us after placing your order, please check your SPAM or JUNK folders. Feel free to contact us if it has taken longer than expected—our support team can provide an update on your order.
How long will it take to receive my blood spot results?
It typically takes our lab 7–10 working days to process your sample and prepare your personalized results report. You'll receive an email once your report is ready, with a secure link to view your results digitally.
Why are my results different from those of another provider?
Testing results may vary between companies due to differences in equipment, testing protocols, and reporting standards. For results to be comparable, every aspect of the test—type, equipment, and procedure—must be identical. Any deviation can lead to different outcomes.
What is the minimum age for testing?
We try not to test children under six years of age. This policy ensures that any symptoms in young children are properly assessed by a physician, as their bodies are still undergoing significant growth and development, especially in areas like the immune and digestive systems. If your child is under the age of 6 please speak with Dr Kidgell to discuss your options.
Do you test for allergies?
Sensitivity, NOT Allergy
Our test is for food sensitivities, not allergies. These two terms are often confused, but they are not interchangeable. While allergies can cause severe and life-threatening reactions, sensitivities generally result in less serious, but still uncomfortable, symptoms. Food sensitivity may improve over time through dietary changes, unlike allergies, which are usually lifelong. Since hair testing doesn't measure antibodies, it cannot diagnose allergies.
What is food sensitivity?
Food sensitivity occurs when the body struggles to digest certain foods, causing symptoms such as bloating, headaches, and fatigue. Sensitivity can also aggravate chronic conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), arthritis, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Do I need to activate my blood spot kit?
Yes! Please look for an email from us containing a code that begins with NDS. Use that code to activate your kit, and make sure the activation form is filled out accurately and completely to prevent delays.
What is food allergy?
Food allergies trigger immune responses that can range from sneezing and itching to severe reactions like anaphylaxis. Unlike food sensitivities, allergies involve antibodies and can be life-threatening. Testing for food allergies requires blood, skin prick, or patch tests and cannot be done through hair analysis.
What will my results look like?
Your results will be displayed on a personalized webpage, where you can see a detailed breakdown of your food sensitivities. Additionally, you'll have the option to download a PDF of your results directly from the webpage. To give you an idea of what to expect, we've provided an example of this PDF document here.
How do I collect my Blood Spot sample?
We've created a helpful video that walks you through each step — from filling out your requisition form and labeling your collection card to collecting your sample correctly. Watch the video here.
I purchased a blood spot kit — when will it arrive, and can I track it?
Your kit typically arrives within 3–5 working days. Tracking details aren't available to customers since the kit ships directly from our lab. If it's been longer than 5 business days and you haven't received it, please contact us so we can personally look into your order.
